Small and DIY interconnection requirements

Wisconsin's statewide PSC 119 rules with state-approved forms. Application and approval before energizing, then commissioning testing: pass to get permission to operate, fail and there's a recommissioning fee. documented

Their manual is picky: one-line diagrams and site plans must be computer generated, hand-drawn is explicitly not accepted, and disconnects must lock in the open position, mounted 30 to 72 inches above grade. documented

Retail-rate credit for small systems, but monthly net excess is paid at the buy-back rate around 4.2c/kWh, so oversizing sells your surplus cheap. Typical timeline 30 to 60 days under 20 kW, up to 6 months if a transformer upgrade is needed. documented

Fresh change: a solar disconnect waiver for energy storage systems took effect June 1, 2025. documented
