Small and DIY interconnection requirements

Florida's statewide tiers apply: Tier 1 under 10 kW has no application fee and no insurance requirement, Tier 2 (10 to 100 kW) carries a $250 fee plus $1M liability coverage, with the declaration page emailed to TECO every year at renewal. documented

Their fussiest requirement is the disconnect switch: manual, visible load break, adjacent to the meter, with a placard reading ON-SITE GENERATION UTILITY DISCONNECT SWITCH engraved or stamped per their electrical standards, and a photo of it goes in with the application. You also formally agree to their Electrical Standards during the application or it can't be submitted. documented

Inspection has a meter-access catch: they ask for 24-hour access, pets secured and gates unlocked, and a $37 fee applies every time an inspection can't be completed, explicitly including a failed inspection and each re-inspection. documented

Netting is Florida's 1:1 retail arrangement, monthly credits roll at full retail, and the annual leftover pays out at avoided cost, a few cents. The 2022 attempt to phase this down was vetoed, so it stands. PTO typically lands 2 to 4 weeks after install. reported

Gear for a territory where exports earn little

In Tampa Electric (TECO) territory, exported power earns well below retail, which is why zero-export and self-consumption builds dominate here.

Craftstrom export controller · AP Systems EZ-1 — caps export in hardware

EG4 6000xp / 12000xp — the community-standard inverter for self-consumption builds, mind bypass-mode leakage

Clamp meter · energy monitor — verify zero on your own meter before Tampa Electric (TECO) does

Every claim above is evidence-graded: documented means it traces to the tariff or the utility's own filings, reported means a dated community report. The full table covers 60 utilities: see all of Gridrules.
