How Pepco interconnection works in practice

Pepco interconnection runs through the Green Power Connection portal, the same Exelon system its sister utilities Delmarva and BGE's neighbors use. Application before installation, with the single-line diagram and equipment cut sheets attached, and installers usually file but homeowners can submit directly.

Territory matters here: Pepco spans DC and the Maryland suburbs, and the rules differ by side. Maryland customers get the statewide Level 1 process and the plug-in solar exemption that went live in May 2026. DC customers follow DC's own interconnection rules and SREC market, one of the strongest in the country.

Netting is 1:1 retail on both sides, with credits rolling forward monthly. The practical sequence: portal application, approval, install, jurisdiction inspection, then Pepco's authorization before the system exports anything.

Verify your export before Pepco does

Pepco nets your exports, but the meter still logs every reverse-flow interval, including ones you didn't plan. Worth knowing your real number before they do.

Every claim above is evidence-graded: documented means it traces to the tariff or the utility's own filings, reported means a dated community report. The full table covers 60 utilities: see all of Gridrules.
