The big change: systems interconnected after Jan 1, 2025 get supply-only netting under CEJA. Exports earn roughly the 9 to 10 cent supply portion while imports pay full retail, about half the old value. One improvement: credits now roll over indefinitely. documented
Grandfathering trap: pre-2025 systems keep full-retail netting for life, but lose it if a modification forces a new interconnection application, and changing system size, swapping inverter type, or adding a battery all count. Think hard before touching a grandfathered system. documented
The consolation prize: CEJA's smart-inverter rebate pays $300 per kW for solar, more with batteries, potentially $6k+ combined, but the battery rebate requires enrolling in Hourly Pricing, and for grandfathered systems taking the rebate historically meant giving up full-retail netting. documented
